The Cesca Chair was designed by Bauhaus maestro Marcel Breuer in 1928 and named for his adopted daughter, Francesca. The cantilevered tubular steel frame was revolutionary at the time, stemming from the work that Breuer and his fellow Bauhaus designers Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe produced while planning the Weisenhof Seidlung exhibition in Stuttgart. Cara McCarty, a curator at MoMA in New York, referred to the chair as being "among the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century".
